Series of 10 cartoon animations focused on the key issues of "Consent" geared toward the college population. Each of the 10 scenarios delivers a short, edgy, "edutainment" type teachable moment on sexual assault prevention related to the issue of "Consent". Each Consent Rewind animation is under 3 minutes long, available on any mobile device, sharable, and relevant, using animations coupled with student actors who summarize the key learning points in each animation. This is the first of several series on sexual assault prevention from NewPoint Strategies LLC. Each school will have their own website location on the NewPoint platform and can customize any data collection, branding information, artwork, or other customizations.

NewPoint has been in the forefront of innovative training programs for 30 years on Sexual Harassment/Assault Prevention, Diversity/Inclusion, and Pay Equity. For Consent Rewind, NewPoint worked with the staff and student interns of the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) Sexual Assault Services office to develop the script and message of the Consent Rewind animations. These scenarios were developed based on the highly regarded guideline "10 Ways to Distinguish Consent, A Guide for Students and Advisors" published by the National Center for Student Life for the national Title IX Compliance Institute and authored by Connie J. Kirkland, MA, NCC. Ms. Kirkland is the Director of the NOVACares Office at Northern Virginia Community College, where she chairs the Threat Assessment Team, coordinates behavioral intervention and support services for the college, and manages the college Sexual Assault Services program. |

The fundamental principle that underlies the creation of the Consent Rewind animations is based on how young adults learn in this digital age, and reinforced by Adult Learning Theory. Young adults learn best by doing and being actively involved in learning about things that relate to their lives. Each character and subject in the animations is relatable to students and their everyday experience on campus. The length and style of each animation is geared to the learning preferences of young learners - easily accessible, short, funny, engaging, provides feedback, and examples of the right way to ask for sexual intimacy. |

NewPoint monitors current research and updates each subject area as new methods and issues occur. The principles involved in Consent Rewind relate to the highly regarded publications on Consent used in campuses throughout the U.S. This is based on national data that support the fact that most sexual assault occurs between non-strangers and the noted confusion among students on the meaning of consent to sexual activity. The 10 scenarios are based on research in the field on standards for consent and reflect recent emphasis in Federal law (Title IX and VAWA) as well as current campus culture nationwide. |

Yes, trauma-informed philosophy has been used by NewPoint to create the animated scenarios, using real people educating viewers as well as animations that are straight-forward yet not aggressive or victim-blaming. Certain animations that address the issue of "What Consent is NOT", for example the absence of a clear verbal "NO" from the victim of assault or "Changing One's Mind" during physical intimacy is of special note. |

Consent Rewind provides an innovative educational tool for colleges to ensure that students have the tools to practice sexual assault prevention. VAWA as reauthorized in 2013 placed a special emphasis on victims’ rights and services, as well as primary prevention of sexual assault. These animations follow the lead of VAWA and are practical examples of what VAWA recommended. |
Title IX |
Title IX, a Federal law enacted in 1972, received an interpretation through the DCL 2011 which specifically detailed how sexual assault on college campuses must be included in Title IX investigations and accommodations. This program covers key issues surrounding typical conduct on college campuses that might lead to sexual assault and gives advice to students how to avoid this type of behavior. Both hostile environment and quid pro quo forms of sexual harassment are covered within the Consent Rewind animations. |
