Background

History

Student Success began providing online violence prevention programs in 2007 because the owners understood the prevalence of the problem and the challenge of changing campus culture and have a passion for improving the lives of college students.

Theory of change

We know that to change student attitudes and behavior, we must engage them cognitively, emotionally and socially. In addition, to engage students we must present an online experience that is unexpected, that has tremendous variety in presentation and presents real student stories that are relatable and emotionally compelling.

Research informed

Student Success builds on situated and communal learning theories that treat intellectual content not as the primary consideration but as of secondary concern relative to its place in a cultural context. Part of the social force of the Student Success method also comes through technological social norming techniques that confront students with how their individual conceptions of social issues. Student Success taps an essential emotional level of learning by drawing on overwhelming research that increased engagement correlates with stronger learning outcomes

Trauma informed

We work closely with survivors, advocates, counselors, mental health professionals as well as individuals that work daily with students dealing with these issues. These colleagues help be certain that our language is appropriate and supportive, and our program reinforces the key messages that victims are never to be blamed or at fault under any circumstances.
