Our show follows from the perspective of a student name Tori who is struggling with intimacy and identity. One evening, Tori finds herself alone with her crush, Billy. Tori is a virgin. She is not ready to have sex but the pressures of society to engage in a casual hook up is weighing on her decision to have sex or not. When Billy and Tori are alone Tori begins to feel uncomfortable but because of all of the pressure from Billy and her friends she is afraid to tell him “No”. She does not want to disappoint Billy but he becomes more sexually aggressive than she expected. The day after she finds herself confused and alone. Does she tell anyone what happened? Was it sexual assault? Can it be if you know the person? Pure Praxis will dive into the complexities of consent and remind attendees that personal boundaries are our own to determine.
Pure Praxis tailors each performance to challenge your community to think critically, boost their confidence and to teach them to trust their instincts. Using a team of skilled and diverse Performance Facilitators and Actor-Advocates we explore the topic and complexities of sexual assault. We promote social change by using live, improvisational theater to re-create difficult real world situations so audiences can rehearse their ideas and move from passive observer to active bystander. We create complex character scenarios based on real life to challenge and empower audiences. Every performance is guided by audience participation making every show unique.
